GANGSTER SQUAD (Feturette)

  • GANGSTER SQUAD

Warner Bros. Pictures has released a new featurette on their upcoming Gangster Squad, hitting theaters on January 11. Check it out in the player below, courtesy of iTunes Movie Trailers.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer, Gangster Squad stars Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Nick Nolte, Robert Patrick, Michael Pena, Giovanni Ribisi, Anthony Mackie, Emma Stone and Sean Penn.

In the film, ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and--if he has his way--every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It's enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop...except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O'Mara (Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen's world apart.

MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING (Release Date)

  • MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING
Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions announced today that they will jointly release Joss Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing on June 7, 2013.

The Shakespeare classic comedy was adapted and directed with a contemporary spin by Whedon (Marvel's The Avengers) and stars Amy Acker, Alexis Denisof, Nathan Fillion, Fran Kranz, Jillian Morgese, Sean Maher, Clark Gregg, and Reed Diamond.

Kai Cole and Joss Whedon produced the film through Bellwether films, with Daniel Kaminsky serving as a co-producer.

Shot in just 12 days (and using the original text), the story of sparring lovers Beatrice and Benedick offers a dark, sexy and occasionally absurd view of the intricate game that is love.

In the film, Claudio (Fran Kranz) and Benedick (Alexis Denisof ) have just returned home to Messina after a successful campaign abroad. When earnest Claudio announces his adoration for the lovely Hero (Jillian Morgese), daughter of Messina's governor Leonato (Clark Gregg), the acid-tongued Benedick teases him mercilessly. Benedick's scorn for love is matched by that of his long-time nemesis and verbal sparring partner Beatrice (Amy Acker), Leonato's niece. As the lovestruck Claudio and Hero make plans to marry, Benedick and Beatrice resume the "merry war" of insults they have long waged. Yet there are many who believe that for all their antagonism - or even because of it - this pair of incessantly sniping cynics is surely meant to be a couple. As matchmaking schemes are put into play and disguises are donned, loathing and love soon prove to be close cousins.

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST (Cast News, Magneto Talks)

  • X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

A couple days ago Director Bryan Singer let the world know that actors Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen would be returning to the world of X-Men in the respective roles as Charles Xavier and Magneto for his upcoming film, X-Men: Days of Future Past. This bit of news, like many others out there, got me instantly excited about this film.

Today, The Huffington Post caught up with McKellen to ask him about the return.

"What a gas!” Mckellen said, “I mean, Patrick Stewart and I have been have just been playing "Waiting for Godot" throughout England and in the West End of London. So, we've stayed in touch. We can't believe it [laughs]. I thought these were Fassbender and McAvoy's parts, but -- no, no -- we're back. We'll give them a run for their money. I mean, I haven't read the script, so I don't know how much we've got to do. But, to be back in that world, and for Bryan to be doing it -- with all the success he's had in the meantime -- it's wonderful. Wonderful."

Speaking of Michael Fassbender, what did McKellen think of him as Magneto in X-Men: First Class? "I thought he was exactly that: first class. Excellent... I thought he was better than me. But, we weren't quite playing the same character because he was so much younger than me."

McKellen is reunited with his X-Men co-star Patrick Stewart along with James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and Nicholas Hoult.

Soon after that it was reported that Hugh Jackman was in talks to return as Wolverine as well.

Heat Vision reported that Jackman was in talks to reprise his role as Logan in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Wolverine
The First Class sequel not only occurs before the events of the original X-Men trilogy, its source material also includes two alternate timelines, which makes it feasible for the casts of both series to appear in the same film. In Chris Claremont’s Days of Future Past arc, an alternate future saw surviving mutants held in concentration camps while giant robot Sentinels patrolled the land;  most of the X-Men had been killed. It fell upon heroes of a prior timeline to stop a key event from happening that would lead to the alternate future.

How the two versions of Professor X and Magneto are going to be used in the film remains to be seen.

At this point in time we not quite sure how big of a role Wolverine will have in the film, but considering the source material, I would say that Logan might not have the most screentime, he will certainly be significant to the plot.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is set to star Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult and Hugh Jackman. With more casting news sure to follow.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is set to open July 18, 2014.
