X-MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST (Big Update)

  • X-MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

There has been quite a lot of news spewing out about the latest entry into the X-Men series, so I decided to compile all the biggest talking points for you to check out starting with:

Peter Dinklage could be playing Puck

Game of Thrones" star Peter Dinklage is the latest name to join the ever-growing cast of Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past. Singer himself posted the news to his Twitter feed this evening.

"Officially like to welcome #PeterDinklage from #GameOfThrones to #XMEN #DaysofFuturePast Very very excited!" Singer writes.

Although Dinklage's character has not yet been confirmed, the Death at a Funeral star has long since been a fan-favorite to play Puck, a dwarf member of Canada's mutant team, Alpha Flight.

Puck was a dwarf with a cauliflower ear and an old friend of Wolverine's from their days in Canadian intelligence. He is a hand-to-hand combatant and acrobat best known for his cartwheeling. Besides his work as a secret agent, Puck's also been a bouncer and a soldier of fortune.

If he does turn out to be Puck, I would love to see Alpha Flight get their own film, as its just one of those bizarrely crazy things that should work.

In my opinion, I think that Dinklage is certainly one of the finest actors of this generation and his involvement in any project is certainly better of for it. I’m glad to see that he will make his debut in a comic book film and that “the Imp” might potentially play a superhero.

Dinklage joins Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page and Shawn Ashmore in the July 18, 2014.

Hugh Jackman in The Wolverine
Hugh Jackman is on the cover of the new Hollywood Reporter and the feature story talks about him again playing Logan in The Wolverine, for which he reportedly is making $20 million.

Jackman then confessed that he is not committed to any more films in the franchise after X-Men: Days of Future Past. Which leaves us to wonder, could this be his last appearance as Wolverine?

Regarding "Days of Future Past," Jackman says he "first heard about it around October or November [2012]. I was literally finishing 'The Wolverine' and dreaming about lasagna, and about three weeks before the end, they told me." The role is large and will reunite him with many of the original cast. "There was no way I was not going to be part of that."

He added that he has not read the finished screenplay and has only seen a synopsis of about eight pages long.

ComingSoon.net/SuperHeroHype had a chance to speak over the phone with director Bryan Singer and actor Nicholas Hoult about their upcoming fairy tale epic Jack the Giant. The interview naturally progressed to the upcoming X-Men film, here is what he had to say:

"I wrote the story for ‘First Class' and produced it so this is a chance to not do a sequel to ‘First Class' or a sequel to ‘X-Men 3' but to do both I guess in a way," Singer said. "In ‘Days of Future Past' the story structure is a fantastic way to do that."

We all wondering how this film will work in terms of continuity, with First Class and Last Stand thrown into the mix, this is what he said. "It's an origin story. I always had an idea in my mind of the history between Professor X and Magneto and ‘First Class' was a chance to explore that history. I think we've done a decent job in the developing the script (for 'Days of Future Past') and maintaining that continuity."

Bryan Singer
Oddly, Singer has never met Mark Millar, who was brought on by 20th Century Fox as a consultant last September. "I think he's working with Fox to look at some other stuff," he said when asked whether they've had any conversations about any more X-Men spin-off movies. "I guess they're trying to figure stuff out. I have my own thoughts about stuff like that. ‘X-Men: First Class' is part of that, this will be part of that but we'll see. But perhaps he and I will discuss that in the future. I'm just really focused on this movie at the moment."

Fortunately or unfortunately (depending on your opinion of it), development on Singer's planned Battlestar Galactica will have to wait. "I have that one on hold for a moment, so hopefully, I'd love to be able to get back to that, but for now I'm just focused on this X-Men business."

Nicholas Hoult as Beast
Hoult then shared his thoughts about returning as Hank McCoy in X-Men: Days of Future Past:

"I'm still waiting to see the script but I've spoken to Bryan briefly about the outline and what he wants from the character. I think Hank's a really fascinating guy and the Jekyll and Hyde aspect of his personality so I think it's really exciting and also going back with Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman being involved with this one, it's going to feel pretty much like an ‘X-Men' movie I guess because those were the guys that I grew up watching in those films."

X-Men: Days of Future Past releases on July 18 2014, and it certainly seems to be worth the wait.
