Here are some new images for the Gavin Hood film Enders
Game. Starring Asa Butterfield (Hugo) as
Andrew “Ender” Wiggin, Ender’s Game follows our protagonist as he trains at the
International Military school in order to save the world from an alien menace.
Also starring Harrison Ford, Sir Ben Kingsley, Hailee Steinfeld,
Viola Davis and Abigail Breslin, Ender’s Game will open in theaters November
1st.
Here’s the full synopsis for Ender’s Game:
In the near future, a hostile alien race (called the
Formics) have attacked Earth. If not for the legendary heroics of International
Fleet Commander, Mazer Rackham (Ben Kingsley), all would have been lost. In
preparation for the next attack, the highly esteemed Colonel Graff (Harrison
Ford) and the International Military are training only the best young children
to find the future Mazer. Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield), a shy, but
strategically brilliant boy is pulled out of his school to join the elite.
Arriving at Battle School, Ender quickly and easily masters
increasingly difficult war games, distinguishing himself and winning respect
amongst his peers. Ender is soon ordained by Graff as the military’s next great
hope, resulting in his promotion to Command School. Once there, he’s trained by
Mazer Rackham, himself, to lead his fellow soldiers into an epic battle that will
determine the future of Earth and save the human race.
Well it would seem that a week cannot go by without
reporting a story that relates to Star Wars.
Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher
Recently we heard whispers that Harrison Ford had signed on
to return as Han Solo in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII. However Mark
Hamill revealed that he, along with certain members of the original cast, have
been talking to Lucasfilm about returning to the franchise and that they havent
signed any contracts as yet.
"They're talking to us," he said in an interview
with Entertainment Tonight. "George [Lucas] wanted to know whether we'd be
interested. He did say that if we didn't want to do it, they wouldn't cast
another actor in our parts – they would write us out. … I can tell you right
away that we haven't signed any contracts. We're in the stage where they want
us to go in and meet with Michael Arndt, who is the writer, and Kathleen
Kennedy, who is going to run Lucasfilm. Both have had meetings set that were
postponed -- on their end, not mine. They're more busy than I am."
Hamill claims he doesn’t know what the story will be about,
but when speaking about the films tone, its quite clear that he does know a
little more then he would have you believe.
Harrison Ford
"I'm assuming, because I haven't talked to the writers,
that these movies would be about our offspring -- like my character would be sort
of in the Obi-Wan range [as] an influential character. … When I found out
[while making the original trilogy] that ultimate good news/bad news joke – the
good news is there's a real attractive, hot girl in the universe; the bad news
is she's your sister – I thought, 'Well, I'm going to wind up like Sir Alec
[Guinness]. I'm going to be a lonely old hermit living out in some kind of
desert igloo with a couple of robots.'"
Pertaining to the Harrison Ford rumours he went on to say
that he feels everyone should return and not just one actor.
"Another thing I'd want to make sure of is are we going
to have the whole gang back? Is Carrie and Harrison and Billy Dee and Tony
Daniels, everybody that's around from the original [returning]? I want to make
sure that everybody's on board here, rather than just one."
Hamill also mentioned the direction he thought the film
should go in terms of tone and its special effects use.
"I said to
George that I wanted to go back to the way it was, in the sense that ours was much
more carefree and lighthearted and humorous – in my opinion, anyway....hope
they find the right balance of CGI with practical effects. I love props, I love
models, miniatures, matte paintings -- I'm sort of old school. I think if you
go too far in the direction of CGI it winds up looking like just a giant a
video game, and that's unfortunate. … If they listen to me at all, it'll be,
'Lighten up and go retro with the way it looks.'"
Star Wars: Episode VII is scheduled to hit theaters in 2015.
J.J. Abrams will direct the film from a script by Michael Arndt. Disney and
Lucasfilm are planning a new trilogy with a new movie coming every other year.
PS. Heres a little interview with Josh Gad who “auditions”
for a role in Star Wars.
Jennifer Lawerence has signed on to The Ends of the Earths
as she looks to re-team with her Silver Linings Playbook director, David O.
Russell who has signed just signed on to direct the film himself, says a story
at The Hollywood Reporter.
David O Russell and Jennifer Lawerence
Lawrence will be starring as Lydie Marland in the true tale.
In the film, a powerful oil tycoon, Ernest Marland, loses everything after
engaging in a controversial love affair with his adopted daughter Lydie.
The news of Russell's involvement arrives just days after
word broke that he was planning on reuniting with both Lawrence and her Silver
Linings Playbook costar Bradley Cooper for a still-untitled Abscam drama
(formerly known as American Bullsh*t).
The Ends of the Earth is set to feature a screenplay by
Argo's Chris Terrio.
Legendary composer John Williams, whose theme for the
original Star Wars may be one of the most recognizable pieces of film music of
the 20th Century, hopes that he will be asked to return to score the 7th
installment of the franchise.
Legendary composer John Williams
A member of the John Williams Fan Network attended a concert
by the Young Musician's Foundation Debut Orchestra conducted by Williams and
this is what the composer said before playing the classic movie theme:
“We’re about to play Star Wars [audience interrupts with
cheers] and each time we play it, I’m reminded of the first time we played it
decades ago. Neither I, nor George, nor anyone else involved thought this would
go far or in a few years there would be a sequel and I’d have to revisit the
themes…and years later another trilogy. Now we’re hearing of a new set of
movies coming in 2015, 2016…so I need to make sure I’m still ready to go in a
few years for what I hope would be continued work with George…[more cheers].”
However it must said that J.J. Abrams has worked almost
exclusively with Michael Giacchino, so while it would be nice to have Williams
back, right now its not set in stone.
In other Star Wars News, for those fans who have been yearning
to see the offspring of the Skywalkers and Solos on the big screen, that little
wish might finally come true.
According to veteran Hollywood columnist Roger Friedman at
Showbiz 411, Star Wars: Episode VII will be set "some time in the future
[after Return of the Jedi]. Han, Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker will be a lot
older. Their children will be the new main characters.
This would mean we will see the three main cast members of
the original trilogy return, but who will be cast to play their children will
be an exciting mystery.
Fan-Art Solo Family
It will be interesting too see if the film would pick up on
the established expanded universe by having Ben Skywalker, Jacen Solo, Jaina
Solo and Anakin Solo in the film, Or will Lucasfilm, director J.J. Abrams, and
screenwriter Michael Arndt invent all new descendants for viewers to follow?? We
will just have to wait and see!
Recently filming on the S.H.IE.L.D. TV series came to end.
Now we got a little bit of an update concerning the show from Avengers director
Joss Whedon, who hinted at the tone of the Marvel TV spinoff.
Coulson Lives
Whedon told TVLine, “I’m excited about the show because it’s
a very hopeful show. It’s not about murder, and it’s not about crime, and it’s
not people looking into their own belly buttons. It’s about people who are
trying to help each other, and that’s one of the things I loved about comic
books. They had costumes and the villains were cool [but] they stood for
something, and I like doing a show that does that.”
When it came to its inclusion in the Marvel Cinematic
Universe, Whedon said, “We’re trying very hard to be true to [Marvel's] ethos
and also to the structure of their universe. So it is definitely a Marvel
show.”
On the other hand, the main characters are all original
creations, not from the comics, though audiences are obviously very familiar
with Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) at this point. Whedon stressed there was
“not a ton” of familiar Marvel characters in S.H.I.E.L.D., though he added,
“there’s a little bit of talk of that” should the pilot be picked up to series.
As Whedon explained, “Right now, I want to involve people in the characters
that we’ve created for the show and then we’ll worry about [the other stuff].”
Cobie Smulders has recently indicated there is a possibility
of her appearing on S.H.I.E.L.D. in a guest role as Maria Hill, but with How I
Met Your Mother renewed for Season 9, Whedon stressed to TVLine that Smulders'
schedule will permit very little involvement, “but if we can get a hold of her
anytime, we will.”
In addition to Clark Gregg, S.H.I.E.L.D. stars Ming-Na Wen,
Elizabeth Henstridge, Iain De Caestecker, Brett Dalton and Chloe Bennet.
