TARZAN (Cast News)

  • TARZAN

According to Variety, True Blood star Alexander Skarsgard has emerged as director David Yate’s top choice to play the title role in Tarzan in Warner Bros.' retelling of the Edgar Rice Burroughs novel. No formal offer has been made yet, though, and Warner’s has yet to green-light the film, however it is rumoured that the film is likely to begin production in May 2013.

Alexander Skargard
"Should Yates convince Warners brass to sign off on Skarsgard's casting, the Swedish thesp would play John Clayton III, known around the world as the famous "ape man" Tarzan. Years after he's re-assimilated into society, he's asked by Queen Victoria to investigate the goings-on in the Congo. Tarzan teams with an ex-mercenary named George Washington Williams to save the Congo from a fierce warlord who controls a massive diamond mine," claims Variety.

The Avengers' Samuel L. Jackson is up for the role of the mercenary Williams, "a Civil War veteran eager to redeem himself for his part in the massacre of Native Americans."

This would mark the second Tarzan film to be brought to the big screen in the next year or 2, as a CGI motion capture Tarzan film is in production and will likely release in 2013.
