- THE DARK TOWER FOR OLD MEN
Javier Bardem |
Universal has found their Roland Deschain. Oscar winner Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men, Eat Pray Love) has just about sealed his deal to star in the epic feature film/TV adaptation of The Dark Tower.
According to our source, "Bardem's WME reps are putting the finishing touches on the deal, and they are close enough that Howard has begun meeting with other actors to cast the roles around Bardem. It's a complex deal, almost unprecedented, because it calls for Bardem to star in the feature film and the TV component. His deal will also include options for two sequels (the TV program that runs between the second and third films will be a prequel). I'm told it will add up to a career-best payday for Bardem."
Bardem's been linked with the project for a few months now. Filming begins in September under the direction of Ron Howard, who will also helm the first TV installment.
- DISTRICT 9 GETS PRISON BREAK
William Fichtner |
Neill Blomkamp, District 9 director, is on to his next film entitled Elysium and already has a marvelous cast at his disposal.
William Fichtner is in final talks to star in Blomkamp's second feature film. Fichtner, who also appeared in Armageddon, Heat and FOX's Prison Break, will join Jodie Foster, Matt Damon and District 9's Sharlto Copley.
Now we don't know who is Fichtner playing, or what Elysium is about, thanks to Blomkamp that is being very secretive about his project. But here's what we do know: According to Variety, Elysium will be an R-rated sci-fi film, set 150 years in the future. It has social allegory elements akin to District 9, couching them in a "very violent, very original" story, according to the director himself. We also know that Matt Damon will play an ex-con.
Find out what Elysium is when the film hits theatres March 8, 2013.
