- ANOTHER DISNEY RIDE TURNED FILM
The popularity of the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise shows no signs of waning ($986,665,000 in global box office to date for the latest film, according to Box Office Mojo). Still, Disney is moving ahead with a variety of other potential series based on their theme-park attractions, the latest of which is the Matterhorn ride.
Heat Vision reports that the studio has brought in scripter Jason Dean Hall to write an adventure tale based on the attraction. He's worked on various action projects that are currently in development, including Robin Hood 2058, Grand Theft Auto and Blacklight. Justin Springer (Tron: Legacy, Prom). The film will be working under the title, the Hill for mow atleast.
As per Heat Vision, "The Matterhorn, also known as the Matterhorn Bobsleds, is part of Disneyland's Fantasyland section. Opened June 1959, the elaborate ride was inspired by Walt Disney's desire for a toboggan-themed roller coaster as well as thoughts he had after an extended trip to Switzerland, the site of the famed mountain. The ride, a centerpiece of the park, was refurbished in 1978, with one of the upgrades being the addition of three [animatronic] Abominable Snowmen (aka Yetis) who growl at riders."
The Hill will be a "thrilling, fast-paced movie centering on five young adventure seekers who, for mysterious reasons, are called to the top of the mountain." Yetis will be encountered!
Other ride-to-film projects in the works include Guillermo del Toro's Haunted Mansion, David Fincher's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and, of course, Jon Favreau's Magic Kingdom, which is less ride-to-film and more theme-park-to-film.
