Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen is currently in talks to play
the antagonistic Monsieur Thenardier in Tom Hooper's musical feature adaptation
of Les Mierables, starring Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe.
Matt Lucas, who is playing Thenardier in the musical's
production on the West End, tweeted the news yesterday while expressing his
enthusiasm for Cohen's involvement. However, Deadline speculates that Cohen is
still just in negotiations and has yet to be definitely confirmed for the part.
The comedy actor has time and again showcased his theatrical
flair in feature films like Sweeney Todd and Martin Scorsese's Hugo. Should
Cohen accept the role in Les Miz, he would have to have a spot cleared for
filming at the start of next year.
