Director J.J. Abrams has beamed aboard Alice Eve for his
upcoming Star Trek sequel.
Variety reports that the English-born She's Out of My League
and Entourage actress, 29, will be "playing a character that's believed to
be new to the canon."
The trade adds that Eve beat out Captain America's Hayley
Atwell and Teresa Palmer (The Sorcerer's Apprentice) for the role.
Benicio del Toro still hasn't closed his deal to play the
unspecified villain in the sequel, which Variety says its "insiders
believe will be playing someone familiar to Trekkies. Abrams has just one more
major role left to cast; sources say it could be another villain, someone who's
older and in more of a supporting character to del Toro."
Star Trek 2 is slated to open May 17, 2013.
