- MINIONS
The bright yellow, pill-shaped Minions that stole so much of
the 2010 animated hit Despicable Me are getting their own spin-off film, aiming
for a 2014 release, EW has confirmed.
Look at all the Minions!! |
Some of you may be thinking “Whaaaa?” – the Minions have no
discernible language, and their adorably antic behavior doesn’t immediately
seem suited to sustain a 90-minute feature.
But according to Deadline, which first broke the news,
director Pierre Coffin has apparently cracked a story with writer Brian Lynch
(Puss in Boots) and co-director Kyle Balda (The Lorax) that resolves these
issues. (Along with Chris Renaud, Coffin directed Despicable Me and that film’s
upcoming 2013 sequel, as well as voicing all the Minions.)
The Minions aren’t the only diminutive breakout animated
characters getting their own spin-off movie, either. DreamWorks Animation
announced earlier this month at Comic-Con that the feature-length film The
Penguins of Madagascar is heading to theaters in 2015.
