- THE MUMMY
We previously reported that director Len Wiseman would be
directing a reboot of The Mummy franchise. At the time it was reported that Prometheus
writer Jon Spaihts was writing a script.
We now have a little update on the story as Vulture is now
reporting that Universal is so eager to get a script ready to shoot this year,
that they've hired The Hunger Games screenwriter Billy Ray to pen a completely
different script for the project.
This is what their insider had to say:
“My suspicion is that one of them will be a
‘structure-and-body’ man, and one’s going to be a ‘character-and-dialogue’ man
— and that they’ll then just [combine] them together into one script, crediting
both writers."
As it turns out, the story will be told in the Present as
opposed to the early 1920’s setting that we seen in the originals.
Universal is targeting a summer 2014 release date. Alex Kurtzman
and Roberto Orci (Star Trek) are attached to produce the new film.
Director Stephen Sommers previously rebooted the Mummy in
1999. The Mummy Returns in 2001 and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in
2008 followed.
