Deadline is reporting that Universal Pictures is negotiating
with Gary Shore to direct Dracula Year Zero, which previously had Alex Proyas
attached to direct and Sam Worthington as the lead.
The movie has been described as follows for a while:
"Dracula Year Zero" explores the origin of Dracula, weaving vampire
mythology with the true history of Prince Vlad the Impaler. Prince Vlad was
actually nicknamed Dracul, which is where the name Dracula came from.
He has also been mentioned as the inspiration for Vampires
and has been treated as such in numerous novels.
The film will seek to depict Dracula as a flawed hero in a
tragic love story set in a dark age of magic and war.
Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless have written a new draft of
the screenplay. Michael De Luca continues on the project as producer.
