Cobra Commander
G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon Chu dropped some interesting tidbits about his sequel's portrayal of the villainous Cobra Commander, while talking at a Toy Fair in New York.

When asked by Moviefone whether or not the Cobra Commander in the sequel is the same character -- character, not actor -- as played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt in 2009's G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, Chu said with a smile, "No." The director added, "But we figured out a way that's pretty nice. And you get the Cobra Commander that you've always wanted. Or, to me, what I always wanted: a bad-ass villain. He's one of the most iconic villains ever."

And what of Cobra Commander's fellow villain Destro, played in the first film by Christopher Eccleston? "You may see a little glimpse of Destro. We'll have to see," Chu teased.

The director also said his film will pay homage to the famous silent issue of the Marvel comic series: "I love 'Silent Interlude.' It's one of my favorite. Obviously that changed everything for Joe. We do a little homage in our movie to 'Silent Interlude.' I'm very excited for the fans to see what we do with that."
