Jeremy Renner considered for the Counsellor
Javier Bardem and Jeremy Renner are both under consideration to play the villain in Ridley Scott's Cormac McCarthy-scripted thriller The Counselor. Likewise, Natalie Portman is also in early negotiations for the female lead.

Javier Bardem
The rumor of Bardem and Renner's involvement began back in February when they were both said to have expressed an interest in the role of Reiner, the film's antagonist.

Having the experience on McCarthy's No Country for Old Men, Twitch Film reports that Bardem is currently the preferred choice.

There is also Portman, who is considering a return to acting after taking a break to be with her new family unit. The Black Swan star has thus far been hesitant to come back to feature films, but she is also Scott's top pick for the role of Laura.

As it stands, Michael Fassbender is the only one to have officially landed a role in the film.
