| Director Francis Lawrence will helm Catching Fire |
It looks like Francis Lawrence will have the honor of
competing in The Hunger Games. The Hollywood Reporter says that Lawrence, best
known for I Am Legend, has officially signed on to direct Catching Fire, the sequel
to the Hunger Games. The choice of Lawrence came about after a hectic two-week
search for a new director, after Gary Ross decided to not return for the sequel
to the smash hit.
Besides I Am Legend, Lawrence also directed Constantine and
Water for Elephants.
Catching Fire will go into production this fall for a
November 2013 release. Ross said his main reason for departing the project was
feeling he didn't have enough time to develop the film, which not only has the
release date factoring in, but also the need for production to finish by the
end of 2012, to accommodate star Jennifer Lawrence beginning work on the sequel
to X-Men: First Class.
