Harmony Korine's next project, Spring Breakers, is gaining
steam as Variety reports that James Franco is now attached and that Emma
Roberts is in talks to star.
Written and directed by Korine, Spring Breakers has four
college girls robbing a fast food restaurant to fund their spring break. When
they arrive at their Florida destination, however, they are immediately
arrested.
Franco will play Alien, described as "a rapping drug
and arms dealer". Roberts would play Candy, one of the four girls.
Franco recently appeared in Rise of the Planet of the Apes
and is currently shooting Oz the Great and Powerful. Roberts just appeared in
Scream 4 and will soon star in Celeste and Jesse Forever.
Korine is still best known for his feature debut, Gummo.
His most recent, Trash Humpers, was released in 2009.
UPDATE: Variety now reports that Selena Gomez and Vanessa
Hudgens are in talks to appear as two of the other girls in the group.
