- TOMB RAIDER REBOOT
New Tomb Raider |
ComingSoon.net had a chance to sit down with producer Graham
King, who has reteamed with Martin Scorsese for Hugo, a magical fantasy based
on Brian Selznick's "The Invention of Hugo Cabret."
They then asked him about his decision to do a Tomb Raider
film, seeing the reaction from the 2 previous installments that had Angelina
Jolie wasn’t that particularly well received by the general audience and
critics alike.
Hethe shed some light on what he is planning for the new
franchise, which is definitely more along the lines of Casino Royale or Batman
Begins:
"Listen, the box office, they weren't disasters but I
find it interesting that the story that we're telling is really the story
before she became Lara Croft, so it is a character piece. It does have a lot of
really great characters, but it's a lot of action and a lot of fun, and for me,
it's something very different. I've not really done a movie like that before,
but I really gravitated to rebooting this franchise and we're going to give it
a shot."
Considering how two of the best studio action movies this
year, Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class and Rupert Wyatt's Rise of the Planet
of the Apes, took a similar approach, it certainly seems like a smart way to
go, and here's hoping King is able to find the right director and
ever-important actress soon to get this thing rolling forward.
