A short while ago, we reported that Universal was interested
in Jim Carrey for a role in Jeff Wadlow’s Kick-Ass 2.

Deadline reports that Carrey has been confirmed to play the
Colonel in Kick-Ass 2. The sequel is
only a few days away from shooting, as Wadlow announced on his Twitter
account. He also mentioned the casting
of the Colonel using a famous catchphrase from Carrey’s Ace Ventura films:
“6 days till we start shooting… and we officially have our
Colonel. Alrighty f’n then!”
Kick-Ass co-creator and writer Mark Millar wrote a blog post
following up on the news of Carrey joining the cast.
“Matthew Vaughn, Jeff Wadlow and I did a conference call
with Jim a couple of weeks back and we’ve been itching to talk about this ever
since because the energy Jim’s going to bring to Colonel Stars has me buzzing
as much as Nic Cage with Big Daddy.”
On what Carrey will be asked to do versus what the actor is
capable of:
“We didn’t quite know what Jim was going to be doing in the
sequel, but the entire team loves him to bits and I’ve been a fan since I first
saw him. I remember reading an interview with Spielberg, a great one back in
Empire for a JAws anniversary, where he was saying that Jim would be his choice
for Chief Brodie were he shooting Jaws now. He said he could see the brilliant
dramatic range Jim had as well as the comedy people knew him for at that time.”
Finally, Millar also talked about one last bit of casting to
be shored up:
“The movie runs from Hit-Girl #1 to Kick-Ass 2 #7 and fans
of the comic will know that the part of Uncle Ralphie is still to be announced.
He’s the big bad from the Hit-Girl series and you, my friends, are in for a
treat.”
Lindy Booth (Dawn of the Dead) is in talks to play Night
Bitch, a hero who joins Justice Forever after being inspired by Kick-Ass and
hopes to avenge the murder of her sister. Johnson returns as Kick-Ass, Moretz
will reprise her role as Hit-Girl and Mintz-Plasse antagonizes as The Red Mist
once again. Donald Faison (Scrubs) has
joined as Doctor Gravity, another hero inspired by Kick-Ass who accompanies him
on his patrols. John Leguizamo (Moulin
Rouge) has also joined the picture as the enigmatic “Javier. Robert Emms (War Horse) has also been rumored
to star as Insect Man, another member of Justice Forever who is a cop in his
daily life.
Nicolas Cage and Yancy Butler also return to the sequel as
Big Daddy and Angie D’Amico, respectively. Look for Kick-Ass 2 to debut on June
28th, 2013.
