EL PRESIDENTE (Cast News)

  • EL PRESIDENTE

Tom Cruise & Robert Downey Jr.
Tom Cruise and Robert Downey Jr. coming off Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol and the box office smashing, The Avengers, respectively, both are looking at the possibility of reteaming (The pair both starred in Ben Stiller’s comedy hit Tropic Thunder), for director Jay Roach’s action/comedy El Presidente.

Roach is the director behind a few successful comedy films including the Austin Powers trilogy, Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers and he also helmed the upcoming political satire The Campaign, which stars Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis.

It appears that El Presidente will also have a political slant, as according to Vulture:

“It follows an overzealous Secret Service agent whose work-life boundary issues get him reassigned to the inglorious task of guarding America’s worst former president, who is a bumbling sleaze. The job suddenly becomes exciting when a threat is made on the ex-president’s life and they must go on the run.”

Warner Bros. is keen to get the film going with Cruise playing the Secret Service agent and Downey Jr. taking on the role of the President.
The combination of mixing them together could lead to some very interesting on-screen chemistry, and probably a whole lot of laughs!
