PIXELS (In Development)

  • PIXELS

Pixels
The King of Kong director Seth Gordon has joined Sony and Adam Sandler's Pixels as an executive producer, but the project is also being developed as a possible directing gig for the Gordon.

Variety reports that Just Go With It scripter Tim Dowling has also come in to rewrite the film, which is based on the viral-hit short by writer-director Patrick Jean that plays like an attack of the '80s video game characters. (Watch the short below, we love it very cool short)

Gordon, however, is attached to several other projects at the moment, including a sequel to his comedy Horrible Bosses, so he just might not be the man to direct this flick.
Sandler regular Tim Herlihy wrote the original draft of the Pixels feature, but Sony is said to want more of a "tentpole-sized action-comedy in the vein of Ghostbusters." The basic premise of the film will involve video game experts who are recruited by the government to help deal with the pixelized invasion threat.

Every nerds dream!! But unfortunately I’m not too excited about this after all; Adam Sandler and some of his collaborators are part of this project and scripting it! And I can’t remember the last time I saw a good Sandler film?

Donkey Kong!!
So I would say it’s a very cool concept but I think it’s in the hands of the wrong people. I hope I’m wrong because that short film is pretty cool, it would be a waste if Sandler and co. screw this up.
