AVENGERS 2 (Whedon will be back)

  • AVENGERS 2

Joss Whedon will direct Avengers 2
Joss Whedon has not only signed on to write and direct The Avengers 2, but he will also be developing a Marvel TV show for ABC. How cool is that!!

Disney Chairman Bob Iger dropped the news during an earnings call with Wall Street analyst recently.

Whedon showing Hawkeye how to shoot!
There hasn’t been any confirmation on just what this TV show will be, however Marvel have stated previously that it will be a “high concept cop show”. So we thinking that it just might be a show about low level S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, or maybe they just take a page out of there One-Shot Item 47 (Which you will be able to see on the Blu-ray of Avengers), that just goes about two ordinary citizens in this world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe! So it could be that Marvel just use the same formula of the one-shot, for the show they developing.. well we will just have to wait and see now wouldn’t we.

Marvel said in a statement, “Joss Whedon has signed an exclusive deal with Marvel Studios for film and television through the end of June 2015. As part of that deal, Whedon will write and direct Marvel's 'Avengers 2' as well as help develop a new live action series for Marvel Television at ABC.  He will also contribute creatively to the next phase of Marvel’s cinematic universe.”

From this statement we can safely assume that Avengers 2 will probably release in June 2015, as this is when Whedon’s three-year contract with Marvel will end.

We can also assume that Whedon will contribute creatively as well as tweak or add certain Easter eggs at will as he did with Captain America: the First Avenger, for the benefit of the Avengers. Iron Man 3 is well into production, with filming almost complete, so we can safely assume that he wont be adding to that or Thor: the Dark World for that matter. As Alan Taylor’s vision for the film is quite strong and principal photography just begun on the film.

He probably might tweak the Ant-Man script  just by adding a few Easter Eggs, but we thinking that Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish’s script is already pretty strong so he wouldn’t have much to do anyway.

Whedon loves Cap
So that just leaves Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy, and its probably safe to say that he will be helping out creatively on both these projects.  Guardians is probably Marvel’s biggest gamble to date, so they will make sure that everything is perfect for this film, which means the script should be close to being flawless.

As for The Winter Soldier, Marvel president Kevin Fiege did say in the past that the film would have the most ties to the events that happened in the Avengers compared to the other films. And we are thinking that it might also have some consequences that might just crawl its way into Avengers 2. That being said, it would just make sense for Whedon to be involved once again, and help carve out the story.

Whedon was also the brain behind Buffy, Angel and Firefly!! So having him back on TV, even if its just as a creator and not necessarily a writer, means that we will be getting something quite AWESOME!!

Avengers 2 will release in 2015.
