  • LA RIOTS

Fast Five director Justin Lin has come aboard to direct L.A. Riots for Universal, with Brian Grazer producing, Deadline reports.

Justin Lin
The project chronicles the frightening and destructive riot in 1992 over six days in Los Angeles that is still an awful memory for those who went through it. Violence, looting and mayhem escalated after the acquittal of four Los Angeles cops for the taped beating they dropped on Rodney King.

Spike Lee first showed interest in the project after he directed the hit Inside Man for Universal, however since then he and Universal and split ways, leaving the door open for Lin.

Lin started his career directing and producing documentaries and festival films before The Fast and Furious Franchise made his name known and put him on the A-list, especially after the massive critical and box office success Fast Five made.

Lin directed the last three entries the The Fast and Furious Franchise (The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious and Fast Five). He is currently back in the director’s chair for Fast and Furious 6 with filming well underway.
