300: BATTLE OF ARTEMISIA (Cast News)

  • 300: BATTLE OF ARTEMISIA

Joel Edgerton in Warrior
The Thing and Warrior actor Joel Edgerton is reportedly in talks to star in the sequel 300: Battle of Artemisia.

Vulture says Warner Bros. has begun talks with Edgerton to play "Themosticles, the famed archon and general who led the Greeks to victory against the invading Persians in 480 BC."

Side Note: Themistocles was actually Athenian and not Spartan, and the Battle of Artemisium happened simultaneously with the battle of Thermopylae, just that Artemisium was a battle on the sea. Artemisia, on the other hand was known to be a female commander in the Persian army. How much of this history will be relevant to the story?? We don’t know… but we do that the film is based on Frank Miller’s graphical novel Xerxes, which is the prequel to his story 300. So it will be interesting to see what they planning with the story for the film.

Noam Murro will direct from a screenplay co-written by the original film's director, Zack Snyder, and based on the forthcoming graphic novel by Frank Miller.

The Aussie actor is currently shooting The Great Gatsby. He'll also star in Kill Bin Laden for director Kathryn Bigelow. His past credits include Animal Kingdom, King Arthur and, of course, his role as "Owen Lars" in the Star Wars prequels.
