JEREMY RENNER (Speaks on his Future)

  • JEREMY RENNER SPEAKS AVENGERS, AND ALL HIS OTHER FILMS

With Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol hitting theaters soon, ComingSoon.net sat down for an exclusive interview with star Jeremy Renner.

The actor spoke a few of his upcoming films which, includes Marvel's The Avengers, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, The Bourne Legacy and more.

"I never went after a big franchise," Renner said of his upcoming four-in-a-row. "I never went after a big action movie. They just sort of kind of manifested in a way... It started off by me saying, 'Why not be in a movie that will play all over the world, but that still has something that I can do in it?' Why not?"

When asked about the similarities between some of his upcoming roles, Renner explained that each is very different on a character level.

"It was kind of impossible for me to say no [to these films]," he added, "as long as there was stuff for me to do character-wise, selfishly, it's just a bigger setting. A bigger stage."

Already featured in a brief cameo in this past summer's Thor, Renner will soon wield Clint Barton's bow in a more significant capacity come May 6, 2012.

"[I] was blessed to be a part of [the Marvel] universe," he continued, "because I love what Marvel did with something so fantastical and unrealistic, making it kind of plausible, like when they did "Iron Man". I just thought those were really great movies, the first one in particular... The character of Hawkeye was always cool. He's kind of a rogue, shadowy character. That's what attracted me to him. Then he's also a human being. He just has a high skill set, so they call him a superhero."

While all four blockbuster films are potential franchises, Renner still teased that he's going to be taking a break from the genre.

"You're not going to see me do another action movie for a while," he smiled.

Post Bourne, Renner is set to star opposite Marion Cotillard and Joaquin Phoenix in writer/director James Gray's period drama Low Life and then may again team with Gray for a biopic of actor Steve McQueen.

"That's one's still really early on," he explained. "He doesn't even have a first draft yet. It's certainly something that interests me. If it comes to fruition, fantastic. We'll see."

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol arrives on December 16th
